To fashion designer du jour Michael Leyva, celebrating with Manila Bulletin its 125th anniversary, life is better now because we can more easily reach for the stars

Life today is so much better, especially for young people with big dreams. Years back, if you were a kid with huge ideas, people wouldn’t take you seriously. But now, we live in a time where age doesn’t matter as much. Social media and the internet make it possible to share ideas, start businesses, and even connect with people all over the world. It is truly exciting because nowadays, it shows that anyone can make a difference no matter how young they are.

Before, it might have been hard for Filipino designers to get noticed, but now, people from around the world are recognizing how talented we are.

When it comes to Philippine fashion, I think that things are really changing for the better. Before, it might have been hard for Filipino designers to get noticed, but now, people from around the world are recognizing how talented we are. Traditional design and Filipino culture are being celebrated globally, and more young designers are stepping up with fresh ideas day by day and showing the world what they can offer.

It feels like life now gives us more chances to dream bigger and aim higher. The tools and opportunities are all here, we just have to use them. It’s easier for us to reach our audience and market our work with the help of social media. As a designer, it’s convenient for us to immerse ourselves and discover new textiles or other materials for our craft. It’s amazing to think how far we can go when we work hard and believe in what we can do. So, I think with all these tools and resources that are easy for us to grasp, we should make the most out of our life now and use it to our advantage.
