Let me extend my warmest congratulations to the management and staff of Manila Bulletin on its 125th Anniversary.Â
The Fourth Estate is a vital component of a democratic society. It does not only serve as a watchdog of the government but it also plays a role in bringing the government closer to the people. The Philippine Constitution recognizes the role of the mass media in nation building that is why it has enshrined the Freedom of the Press. Truly, the mass media could not perform their functions effectively in a curtailed environment.
I salute Manila Bulletin for upholding the torch of press freedom for the past 125 years. I believe the Manila Bulletin has not only chronicled events and milestones but has also helped shaped our country’s history.
It is my wish that Manila Bulletin will continue to be an active partner of the government in the dissemination of truthful and useful information to the people.
