It’s not enough that our life is better now, says Rep. Camille Villar, participating in our anniversary forum on the occasion of the Manila Bulletin’s 125 th, what matters is the we ensure our children inherit a future brimming with opportunity, compassion, and innovation
As a young mother, I find myself constantly imagining a world where my children can thrive without fear or limitation. My hope is that they will inherit a future brimming with opportunity, compassion, and innovation.
Each day, I look at my children’s bright eyes and realize how critical it is that we shape a society capable of nurturing their boundless creativity, curiosity, and empathy. I dream of a world where they can walk fearlessly, embrace their uniqueness, and share their gifts freely with others.
In this future, education would not be a privilege but a fundamental right, accessible to every child regardless of background or circumstance. Classrooms would be places of exploration and collaboration, where students are encouraged to think critically and solve real-world challenges. Through inclusive and modern teaching methods, children would learn not just academic skills but also empathy, teamwork, and resilience. Such an education would prepare them to tackle global issues—like climate change and economic inequality—with both determination and compassion.
Each day, I look at my children’s bright eyes and realize how critical it is that we shape a society capable of nurturing their boundless creativity, curiosity, and empathy.
I also envision healthier communities where affordable healthcare is available to all, ensuring that no mother or child is left behind. Families would have access to nutritious food, safe neighborhoods, and the mental health resources they need to flourish. Our planet’s well-being would be a priority, with cleaner energy and sustainable practices leading the way. By valuing and preserving the environment, we would teach our children to respect nature’s delicate balance.
Yet, this hopeful vision cannot be realized by parents alone. Governments, businesses, and communities must unite to champion policies that uplift every family. By investing in programs that promote job security, childcare assistance, and parental support, we can create a strong foundation for the next generation. We must also celebrate diversity and foster cultures of inclusion, teaching our children to embrace differences as strengths rather than weaknesses.
Though I am just one young mother, I firmly believe that each step we take—no matter how small—brings us closer to a brighter future. My greatest wish is for my children, and all children, to grow up in a world driven by kindness, equality, and hope. It may not always be easy, but with love and determination, we can build the tomorrow our children deserve.
