Chef Cristina Santiago reflects on honoring her father’s legacy and embracing life’s blessings for Manila Bulletin’s 125th Anniversary Special

The only thing that is constant in life is change. I watched my father’s restaurant ride those changes… from Omron to POS, from word of mouth to the wonderful magic of marketing through social media.

Although we lost him 3 years ago, I hold on to his legacy more strongly now that he is gone. But I know that to survive, one must grow, one must spend time, and one must take leaps into the unknown. Carmelo’s is a taste of the old in the new world. With that legacy firmly in my heart, I am ready to face the future with no fear because I know my God and my loved ones are beside me.

On the personal aspect… life is so much better for me now because I am in a 10-year relationship and my love story is getting better each year. I am also a fulfilled mother, who successfully raised my only daughter as a single mom. And an added bonus to making life even better is that, I am soon to be a Glam-Ma to a baby boy! I am sure that the best is yet to come.
