To Marga Nograles, chief operating officer of the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board, with whom we celebrate the incredible milestone of 125 years for the Manila Bulletin, the alignment of passion and purpose is what ultimately makes life better for all

Life is better when you live for a purpose that is bigger than yourself.

For me, that began when I started my work with Kaayo, supporting, promoting, and working with indigenous communities and women’s groups in Mindanao. At that time, people would ask me what my secret to Kaayo’s success was and I would say it was due to perfect timing and God guiding me. Ultimately, I realized that our success also stemmed from authenticity.

Being born and raised in Davao allowed me to create and share my genuine story. This sense of purpose led me to the Tourism Promotions Board, where I then saw firsthand how tourism could transform lives. Our community-based initiatives not only promote the Philippines but also create meaningful opportunities for those who need them the most. Programs that uplift local weavers and artisans help preserve traditions and empower the soul of our nation.

Witnessing the positive impact of these efforts—livelihoods created, stories shared, and cultures celebrated—has enriched my life immensely.

What makes life even better is that my work seamlessly integrates into my roles as wife, mother, and public servant. After all, tourism is not just about destinations. It’s about the connections it fosters—between people, cultures, and generations. I find fulfillment in being part of something that uplifts our nation while honoring our unique Filipino identity. Part of that identity is taking care of our families. This alignment of purpose and passion fuels my belief in a brighter, more connected future that ultimately makes life better for all.
