Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian is committed to transforming the city through various comprehensive programs and initiatives aimed at addressing the everyday challenges of its residents.
Since taking office in 2022, Gatchalian has launched an array of social programs tailored to improve the residents’ quality of life.
His holistic approach covers key areas such as health, employment, and education, reflecting his vision of a city where essential services are accessible to all.
A healthier Valenzuela
Through WES Kalusugan, healthcare is made accessible to Valenzuelanos right at their doorsteps.
The initiative organizes medical caravans that provide free medical, optical, and dental services, especially in underserved areas.
The program also allocates funding for public hospitals, strengthening the city’s healthcare system to ensure residents can receive necessary care without financial hardship.
On Sept. 21, the city government launched the “Valenzuela Boardwalk” to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The 1,300-meter-long, four-meter-wide linear park and bike trail spans three barangays—Coloong, Tagalag, and Wawang Pulo.
It was designed for long runs, health walks, and cycling, the boardwalk also functions as a flood control dike to regulate water flow between these barangays and Meycauayan, transforming it into a safe recreational space for pedestrians.
‘Tuloy ang progreso.’
Economic support through WES Trabaho
To combat unemployment, WES Trabaho provides job opportunities and promotes skill development for Valenzuelanos.
Partnering with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the program hosts Mega Job Fairs that connect job seekers with employers and offer skills training to boost employability.
The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program also provides temporary employment for those in need, offering financial support during challenging times.
On April 5, the city government opened 3,000 overseas job opportunities for job seekers, followed by a series of mega job fairs in the following months.
In these job fairs, various recruitment agencies offer employment in countries such as Japan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Canada, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
Jobseekers applied for diverse roles, including nurses, kitchen staff, sales representatives, production sewing machine operators, restaurant managers, bartenders, supervisors, teachers, technicians, construction workers, cooks, welders, and waitstaff.
Educational access with WES Edukasyon
Education is a top priority for Mayor Gatchalian, with WES Edukasyon serving as a key initiative.
This program provides scholarships, tablets, and transportation services to ensure that all students have access to education. By establishing new schools and expanding educational support, the mayor is equipping Valenzuela’s youth with the skills needed for academic and professional success.
Recently, the city government launched a new Techno Camp Laboratory at Malinta Elementary School as part of the “Tech-Talk Kids” event on October 28.
The initiative introduces students to digital skills through hands-on projects, coding activities, and real-world applications, preparing them for a technology-driven future.
It aims to empower students with essential digital knowledge and resources, supporting the city’s commitment to innovative education.
These initiatives—WES Kalusugan, WES Trabaho, and WES Edukasyon—reflect Mayor Gatchalian’s targeted approach to community needs, positioning Valenzuela as a leader in accessible and inclusive services.
Gatchalian’s commitment to effective local governance sets the standards for service delivery across the Philippines, embodying the spirit of “Tuloy Ang Progreso.”
